MRO Success Stories Post Pandemic

After almost a decade, the AI Engineering Services (formerly known as Air India Engineering Services Limited/AIESL) facility in Mihan-SEZ, Nagpur, India welcomed its first international customer, a Kuwait Airways B777 aircraft for a C-check marking an important milestone for the AIESL as the facility served a foreign airline for the first time

AI Engineering Services (AIESL) Trivandrum recently inducted its first Boeing 737 MAX aircraft for a 36-month heavy check.

AAR-Indamer MRO facility at MIHAN, SEZ in Nagpur, Maharashtra achieved a major milestone by completing its 100th C-check in a record time of just 28 months. The AAR-Indamer facility is located strategically close to Nagpur airport and currently has 4 hangars with 6 maintenance bays, engine run up bay and dedicated environment-controlled paint hangar. The facility has planned robust expansion in next Phase with another 6 hangars and an investment of INR 550-600 crores. The capacity will be tripled and the MRO will be capable for maintaining wide body aircraft.

Air Works received the European Aviation Safety Agency’s (EASA) approval for its twin hangar engineering facility at Cochin International Airport and is now able to offer full Maintenance Planning Document (MPD) support for the Airbus 320 family of aircraft, including A318, A319, A320 and A321 from a second facility.

GMR School of Aviation is all set to open any time soon, provide the fully integrated Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (AME) licensing program with a four-year course will include two years of classroom training and a two-year training in maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) at GMR Aero Technic followed by aircraft type training.

  • India's Commercial Fleet is forecasted to Expand to 1137, almost doubling from the present level on the back of rising demand from LCCs. The Regional Jets & Wide-body Aircraft to increase to 116 from current numbers.
  • Total Engines on order (with incoming jets) ~ 2500.
  • The number of aircraft with Indian carriers has grown by 75% from 400 in 2013-14 to over 700 now.
  • Air India just placed a historic order for 470 aircraft.
  • Earlier in 2023, 190 Boeing 737-8 aircraft and 50 options were signed up for by Air India. These aircraft are most probably all going to be inducted by Air India Express.
  • Akasa Air’s order book comprises 76 jets which include 23 737-8s and 53 737-8-200 airplanes. In addition, the airline remains fully committed to placing a three-digit aircraft order by the end of 2023.
  • IndiGo operates over 292 aircraft and has previous orders totalling 500 aircraft which are yet to be delivered between now and the end of this decade.
  • With this additional firm order of 500 aircraft for 2030-2035, Air India & Indigo’s order book has almost 1,000 aircraft yet to be delivered well into the next decade.
  • In 2013-14, India saw 6 crore domestic flyers. Now this number is up 130% to 14.5 crore.
  • The number of international air travellers has grown by 50% in the same period from 4.7 crores to 7 crores now.
